Day 2: The Vatican
The Vatican is a experience of a life time. Our tour guide was fantastic and really funny. You could really spend all day and still not see everything, it is truly amazing. We learned all about Michelangelo, Rafael, Popes, Rome and so much more. My favoite thing we saw was the famous painting called Piet`a. Words can't descripe what it was like to see this sculpture by Michelangelo of Mary holding Jesus after the Crucifixion.
This is a picture of just the ceilings- you can imagine what everything else looked like.
We also saw the Sistine Chapel. It is much smaller then you would think but still beautiful. You are not allowed to take pictures inside of the chapel so these are from the Internet.
This painting only took Michelangelo 3 days to accomplish.
The ceiling of the Sistine chapel.
St. Peter's basilica
We couldn't see this at night but this is what it looks like. AMAZING
Michelangelo's Pietà, a depiction of the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Maryafter the Crucifixion, was carved in 1499, when the sculptor was 24 years old.
